How to Host Guests in a Small Home

When guests come to visit it may feel like a daunting task to host them comfortably in a small home, but at Wallbeds n’ More in Rocklin, California we are experts in helping you maximize the utility of even the smallest space in your house. Whether you want to transform your office into a comfortable guestroom or hide a bed in your living room, we have a variety of ways to help you host your loved ones in style and comfort.

What is a Murphy Bed?

A murphy bed is simply a hidden bed that folds up into the wall when not in use. While a murphy bed is bolted to the wall, it can be unbolted and moved with you should you ever change locations. A murphy bed is also referred to as a wall bed.

At Wallbeds n’ More we offer murphy bed cabinets, models with desks or fold down tables, and all kinds of customizations to increase the functionality of any space.

Are Murphy Beds Comfortable?

The thought of a bed hiding in plain sight might stir up bad memories of lumpy couches, air mattresses, or the uncomfortable hide-a-beds of yesteryear. Many people wonder if murphy beds are comfortable because of these experiences. Wall beds are drastically different because they use a standard, thick mattress which you get to pick out yourself.

Whether you prefer a softer mattress or a more firm, supportive one, at Wallbeds n’ More each mattress is sold separately from the furniture unit itself, so that you can select the one that is most suited to your comfort level. Since our wallbeds support mattresses up to 11” thick with well-designed framing, they are just as comfortable as a traditional bed.

Our wallbeds also allow you to keep sheets and blankets on the bed, just like you would in a standard guest bedroom. No need to worry about space as the whole thing folds right up into the wall, linens included, so that you’re always ready for guests to arrive!

What Size is a Murphy Bed?

At Wallbeds n’ More in Rocklin we sell murphy beds in four different sizes:

  • Twin

  • XL Twin (longer than a standard twin)

  • Full size

  • Queen size

In addition to the size of the mattress you can choose to add features such as a wardrobe with drawers, a desk, a fold down table, or open shelves depending on the dimensions of the room. If the space is very small, or you prefer a streamlined look, there’s no need to add any extra storage space.

You can even choose one of our minimalistic chest beds for the most compact of areas. All of our options make our Murphy beds ideal for even the very smallest nook in your home.

Choose a Murphy Bed Cabinet System for Storage and Style

If you do happen to have just a little bit more room, you can choose to customize your wallbed system for both enhanced storage capacity and elegant decor that matches the interior style of your home. One great way to maximize space when hosting guests in a small house is to add a wardrobe or armoire to your murphy bed frame.

Because many small homes don’t have enough closet space, or indeed any closet at all in certain areas, adding a wardrobe to your piece of furniture provides your guests with a freestanding closet to hang their clothes. When guests are not visiting, that wardrobe can also function as an additional storage place to keep items out of the way and avoid clutter.

Before the Holiday Rush

Be sure to speak with a Wallbeds n’ More associate about the timeline for building a custom wallbed based on specific models. If you need to ensure installation of your murphy bed before the holidays, your best bet will be to choose one of our in-stock models rather than having a custom one built.
